You don't need farmland to grow food
Hydroponics grows plants in nutrient-rich water instead of soil. Aquaponics goes a step further and adds fish, whose waste feeds the plants while the plants clean the water. Both work in a few square metres — a back yard, a rooftop, a disused classroom.
The pump lifts water up; gravity brings it back. Nothing is thrown away, and the same water keeps circulating — which is why the whole system runs on a fraction of what a field uses.
No land required
The single biggest barrier disappears. A system fits where a field never could.
Far less water
Water recirculates instead of draining away, which matters in a country that runs dry.
More per square metre
Shorter cycles and denser planting than the same area of ground.
Vegetables and protein
An aquaponic system produces fish alongside the crop, from one set of inputs.
Soil forgives mistakes. Water doesn't.
The equipment has become affordable — pumps, grow media, nutrients, a meter to read water strength and acidity. Buying a system is no longer the hard part.
Running one is. A soil crop will survive a fortnight of neglect. A recirculating system is a balance you hold every day: nutrient strength, pH, water temperature, oxygen. In aquaponics you're also keeping alive a colony of bacteria you cannot see, which is the thing that converts fish waste into plant food. Get it wrong and you lose a crop, or a tank of fish, in a day.
That's not a technology problem. It's a teaching problem, and it's the one we exist to work on.
There's also a local problem the textbooks don't cover: when the power goes, the pump stops. In a recirculating system that's a countdown, not an inconvenience. Training that doesn't plan for load-shedding isn't training for here.

Free at the point of use
No fees. When a course costs money to attend, the people who need it most are the ones who don't come.
In person and hands-on
Hands on the pump, the media, the meter. Nobody has ever learned to read water chemistry from a downloaded guide.
Co-designed, not prescribed
We won't arrive with a fixed curriculum. What gets taught is decided with the growers, schools and community groups in each area.
Anyone with a few square metres and some power
The reason the organisation exists. No land, no title deed, no tractor — a yard and a plug point are enough to start.
A working system is a biology, chemistry and nutrition lesson at once, and the class eats the result.
Already growing and want to use less water, get more from the same space, or add fish to what you do.
We're at the beginning, and we'd rather say so
The foundation is being established. The first programmes are being designed, and we're looking for the partners, funders and teachers to run them with.
